How I Got Marvel Rivals Running Smooth on My Mid-Tier Gaming PC
Marvel Rivals is insanely fun—fast gameplay, crazy powers, and some of the most iconic characters ever. But let’s be honest, if your game starts lagging the moment things get intense, it takes the fun right out of it.
I’ve been playing it on my modest setup here in the Philippines, and yeah, I had some serious lag issues at first. But after trying different tweaks and changes, I finally got the game running smoothly. If you’re in the same boat, here’s what worked for me.
1. Know What Your PC Can Handle
Before anything else, check if your specs are even close to what the game needs. Marvel Rivals is more demanding than you'd expect from a cartoony shooter.
Here’s the minimum setup I’d recommend:
-
Processor: Intel i5 (6th Gen up) or AMD Ryzen 3 3100
-
Graphics Card: GTX 1050 or AMD RX 560
-
RAM: 8GB (don’t go lower!)
-
Drive: SSD is highly recommended
-
OS: Windows 10, 64-bit
If you're somewhere near those specs, don’t worry—you can still optimize your way to decent performance.
2. In-Game Graphics Settings That Actually Help
Once you're in the game, go to Settings > Graphics and tweak the following:
-
Display Mode: Set to Fullscreen (not windowed fullscreen)
-
Resolution: Keep it at your monitor’s native size
-
V-Sync: Turn it Off
-
Anti-Aliasing: Off or Low
-
Shadows: Low or Off
-
Effects & Post-Processing: Drop them to Medium or Low
-
Textures: Medium is usually fine, unless you’re on a 2GB VRAM card
-
Frame Cap: Either 60 or 120, depending on your monitor
These changes gave me around a 15 FPS boost—and the game still looked decent.
3. Quick Shortcut Tweaks
There’s no built-in launch option menu yet, but if you're launching from a shortcut on your desktop, try this:
-
Right-click the game shortcut
-
Select Properties
-
In the Target field, after the path in quotes, add:
What this does:
-
Forces DirectX 11 (great for older GPUs)
-
Runs the game with high CPU priority
-
Skips intro videos, if any
It’s a small tweak, but it helped stabilize my frame rate.
4. Keep Your Drivers Fresh
I know, we hear this a lot—but it does matter. I didn’t update my GPU driver for months and wondered why the game was choking. After updating through GeForce Experience, things improved instantly.
Same goes for AMD users—use Adrenalin Software to stay current.
If you’ve had issues across different games, try doing a clean install using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU)—it helped me fix weird crashes in the past.
5. Close Useless Stuff Before Playing
I got into the habit of doing a “pre-game cleanup”:
-
Close Chrome (it eats RAM like crazy)
-
Shut down Spotify, Discord, and other background apps
-
Open Task Manager > Startup Tab and disable any programs you don’t need launching every boot
This freed up over 800MB of RAM on my PC—and the game ran way smoother after that.
6. Tweak Your GPU Settings
If you have an NVIDIA card, go into NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings:
-
Set Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance
-
Turn on Low Latency Mode (Ultra)
-
Set Texture Filtering - Quality to High Performance
For AMD users, open Radeon Settings and:
-
Enable Radeon Anti-Lag
-
Set Texture Filtering to Performance
-
Make sure Marvel Rivals is using your dedicated GPU, not integrated graphics
7. Avoid High Ping the Easy Way
Gameplay in Marvel Rivals can get chaotic, and even a slight delay makes a big difference. If possible, use a LAN cable instead of WiFi. If you’re using prepaid WiFi (like Globe at Home or Smart Bro), try playing during non-peak hours—early mornings or late at night.
Also, check in-game server selection if available and stick with Southeast Asia servers for better ping.
Final Thoughts: You Don’t Need an Expensive Setup
I’m still using a fairly basic rig, but with all these adjustments, I’m playing Marvel Rivals smoothly at around 60–75 FPS. No more stutters during team fights, no random lag when the action gets wild.
💻 My Actual Setup:
-
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
-
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1650
-
RAM: 16GB DDR4
-
SSD: 512GB
-
Internet: Globe Prepaid WiFi (with external antenna)
